Local barber shops reopen amid pandemic
VICTORIA, Texas — Per the latest phase of Governor Abbott’s plan to reopen Texas, barber shops and salons have been eligible to open since last Friday, May 8th. Many of those businesses, such as Victoria-based barber shop Texas Made Fades, have been taking extra steps to trim away any fears potential customers may have.
“Washing your hands when they (customers) first come in, sanitizing everything directly after we’re done with any customer,” said Bobby Medina, owner of Texas Made Fades, on the precautions his team has been taking. All barbers are also wearing protective masks.
Despite difficulties caused by the six-week mandatory closures, barber shops appear to be capitalizing on the increased demand caused by their hiatus.
“Six weeks of nobody getting haircuts — a lot of people are back, everybody’s busy,” said Medina. “It’s a real good time to be a barber or be a stylist, there’s definitely a lot of customers needing it.”
