Local avid wildlife and bird photographer creates a children’s book featuring her actual photographs
Johnson motivated by friend's request
VICTORIA, Texas – Cheryl Johnson, who began photographing birds in 2016, never planned on being a children’s book author. Unexpectedly, Johnson received a text message from a friend who motivated her to launch an exciting, new adventure.
Johnson is well-known around the area as an avid wildlife and bird photographer. Back in July 2018, she was recognized as The Citizens Medical Center July Artist of the month for her “The Color of Beauty” collection.
In 2020, a friend asked Johnson to create a picture book with some of her bird photographs for the friend’s God daughter. Johnson began researching concepts when she discovered the most nature-related children’s books had illustrations. She also discovered that not many children’s books featured actual photographs of birds and wildlife.
Johnson put together “My Backyard Bird Book” that features fun fast facts and surprising secrets, along with her photographs of birds and wildlife.
