Local Amateur Boxer Wins Regional Title 9-26
Acosta Heads To Olympic Qualifyer
Victoria, Texas —
A local amateur boxer wins a big title, and now plans on a big trip.
Earlier this week, Ramon Acosta Jr. won the LBC South Texas championship in San Antonio for the fourth straight year. Fighting in the 152 pound Elite division, the 18-year-old from Two Countries Boxing Club Of Victoria won both his fights, the second by a decision in the finals. This qualifies Acosta for the Eastern Elite Qualifyer for the Olympic Trials in December. Last year in this tournament, Acosta made it to the semifinals. I asked him and his father, Ramon Acosta Sr,, about how much improvement he’s made in a year.
Said Acosta Jr., “I’ve been working a lot on head movement and cutting the ring off. That’s what we were doing at the fight and I did it well. “
Said Acosta Sr., “He fought tough fighters and I’m very sure he has more experience. He’s fighting with the best ones.”
Said Acosta Jr.,”It’s good because there’ll be a lot of different people from all across the United States trying to get their spot in the Olympics. It’ll be tough competition and I’m ready for it..”
Ramon Acosta Jr. starts competing in the Eastern Elite tourney October 5 in Columbus, Ohio.
