Local agencies partner with Gulf Bend Center for resource fair
Gulf Bend Center will help residents build crisis kits
VICTORIA, Texas – Gulf Bend Center, in collaboration with local agencies, will host a “Build Your Own Crisis Kit Event” from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4 at 6502 Nursery Drive, Room 242. Gulf Bend clients and their caregivers will have the chance to meet with Victoria Police Department officers and discuss their needs during this free event.
The event will provide information and resources for autistic and/or intellectually disabled residents and their caregivers. Residents will also have the opportunity to enroll in VPD’s notification system. Through this system, police officers will receive information about a person’s disability and behaviors when dispatched to an enrolled person’s house. The notification will also inform the officers of any other information that residents wish to provide.
Gulf Bend Center will help residents build crisis kits. The kits will include a resource folder, a first aid kit, fidget toys and other items that could be useful to a person experiencing a mental health crisis.
Other local agencies will also be available to share information and resources at the event.
The Victoria Police Department has partnered with Gulf Bend in the past to provide specialized care to residents with unique mental health needs. The Guld Bend Center funds two mental health officer positions within the department. VPD also previously partnered with the Crossroads Autism Network on a similar program.
Residents will need to register in advance at https://gulfbendcentercrisiskitevent.eventbrite.com. Caregivers only need to register the person with autism or an intellectual disability.
You can find more information about the event by contacting Gulf Bend Center Crisis Intervention Specialist Ashley Trevino at 361-550-3978. You can also access information about VPD programs and resources by visiting www.victoriatx.gov/police.
