Liberty Academy graduation ceremony leaves parents really proud

The graduation ceremony at Memorial stadium for Liberty Academy's students was worth the wait.

VICTORIA, Texas – Liberty Academy is a school in the V.I.S.D district where kids who have fallen behind on high school credits can attend to receive more one-on-one learning with teachers who really want to see them succeed.

Paula Schroeder has been working in education for 19 years and said her job is rewarding, as the school’s counselor because she’s able to guide everyone of them throughout their journey.

“But it’s really great just to see how far some of these guys have come. They’ve all really worked hard and everybody here comes from a different path or might struggle, but being a credit recovery program. We’ve see a lot of growth and we’ve just seen these guys blossom. We’re really proud of them,” Schroeder said.

One student was contemplating whether or not to attend the ceremony, but did so anyway and felt it was worth it because he was able to make his mom proud.

“I woke up pretty excited because I’ve had a lot of mess-ups, I’m not going to lie. The staff and the teachers were here to help me and like guide me through it. Now I’m here. At first I thought they were actually going to like not do this, but I’m actually happy,” the student said.

All the families were really excited to see the kids walk the stage and were very energetic throughout the ceremony.

One graduate is planning to go to the military and the school had an overall of 97 kids graduate this year.

The entire staff was proud of all their hard work and grateful for everyone who helped make the ceremony possible.
