The Lady Flyers are off to a fast start this season under first-year head coach Leslie Wunsch.

With their first-place finish at their home tournament this weekend, the Lady Flyer Classic, St. Joe improved to 17-5 overall on the season. The Lady Flyers defeated nineteenth-ranked Cuero in the championship game Saturday afternoon to claim the tournament title.

“We’ve been working really hard in practice every single week to just get better and better,” said junior Maiya Tillman. “And it was nice to see some results at the tournament.”

Tillman and senior Jozelyn Washington were both named to the All-Tournament team for their play.

“It felt like a big accomplishment for me to help out my team, and just us coming together to win the tournament just felt nice,” added Washington.

The Lady Flyers play Friday on the road at Skidmore, and begin district play at home next Friday against IWA.
