Lady Flyers Fall to Tigers in Five Sets
The St. Joseph’s Lady Flyers fell to powerhouse Goliad in a tight, five set match on Tuesday in the STJ Dome. Coming into the match, the Tigers were ranked third overall in State 3A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, but St. Joe’s hardly looked like a team playing scared as they kept pace with Goliad for much of the night. After dropping the opening frame, 25-21, the Lady Flyers came back to take the second, 25-23, before the Tigers were able to take two of the final three sets.
Ashlyn Davis and Amaya Brown led the way for Goliad, recording 19 and 16 kills, respectively. Kaci Hotz added 16 digs and Karleigh Hill had four blocks to help the Tigers in the winning effort.
Goliad will face George West in a district match on Friday, while St. Joe’s will host Shiner St. Paul at the dome on Thursday at 6:30 pm.
