Kona Ice gives back to the community
Kona Ice of Victoria wants to start giving back to the community.
Newscenter 25’s David Gibson went to speak with the owner about the special event to give back to some deserving Victorians.
“We give back 20 percent depending on the numbers and the time that we are there, so as far as the giving back part its pretty much who we are,” says Jesse Pena, Owner.
Going the extra mile…that’s the mantra of Kona Ice owner Jesse Pena when it comes to families with special needs..an idea dating back to his childhood.”My junior high years, my mom was a special ed full time substitute and so i would help out her and her class. it was enjoyable to spend time with autism kids or special needs kids because there always just cheerful,” explains Pena.
The goal is to give more than just a delicious treat..instead they’re serving up life long memories.
“The family comes outside, we have our lights, music going and the children or child are encouraged to serve themselves. we have 10 spigots outside but actually 20 spigots but 10 they can choose from,” adds Pena.
Paying it forward…a theme spanning across the ages…
“Its the old adage pay it forward type deal. if you could be nice why not, only good can come from it. so that’s pretty much it we are here for you guys and we are here for our community,” declares Pena.
Pena tells me he wants to start this program asap so you can reach him on Facebook at Kona Ice of Victoria or call him at 361-218-1713.
