Kevin’s Dreams live on through his mother
Almost two years ago Kevin Garza was killed in a hit and run crash.
The case remains unsolved.
This month, Kevin’s Closet is putting together an event to help another organization. Today would have been Kevin’s birthday
Yes, Kevin would have turned 11 today.
His mother is making his dreams live on by doing an event the whole month of April.
We introduced you to Kevin Garza’s mom almost two years ago when Kevin was struck and killed by a hit and run driver. Now two years later his mom is carrying on his legacy with a food drive.
“One of the many goals that Kevin had was to end hunger, and he wanted to start out simple by handing out apples to all the homeless,” says
Darlene Chavez, Kevin’s Mom.
Chavez says Kevin had bigger plans than just passing out apples.
“He said eventually wanted to open up a restaurant that served 3 meals a day 7 days a week. Free food to anybody that was hungry or needed food,” adds Chavez.
The food drive ends April 30th, just drop off non-perishables at Kevin’s closet off Rio Grande near Navarro.
“They can bring it here anytime that we are open, and we are open 12-5 and we are taking any nonperishable food items like can foods, noodles, sodas, anything in a can,” tells Chavez.
All the food item’s Chavez collects will go to Christ’s kitchen. She chose this place because Kevin enjoyed eating there.
“they were there for us when we needed them. When Kevin was a little boy, a toddler when we ate there. That’s how long Christ Kitchen has been helping us. anytime that we didn’t have food or were struggling, i took my children there to Christ kitchen.
Christ’s kitchen says they’re thankful Kevin’s closet wants to help.
“Thank you again for supporting us and you have a loving out reach to homeless and that speaks volumes and that’s are heart too,” thanks Rob Cook, Christ’s Kitchen.
Chavez thanks the community for all the support and wants to leave them with some food for thought.
“No matter what position that you are in, whether you are struggling yourself, you can still do it you can still help out somebody else and you can still help out The community. There is always a way,” declares Chavez.
Chavez says they are still searching for answers to get justice for Kevin. If you know anything please reach out to authorities.
