JR Elementary staff member tests positive for COVID-19 in Calhoun County

CALHOUN COUNTY, Texas- Calhoun County Independent School District shared the following statement with students and parents on their website and Facebook page Wednesday afternoon. Calhoun County ISD confirms that a JR Elementary staff member fell ill during spring break and has now tested positive for COVID-19.

“Dear Parents,

A JR Elementary staff member was last working on campus on March 13th. The staff member became ill over the break and has tested positive for COVID-19. The staff member self-reported when results were received on March 25, 2020. This is the only positive test result for a school employee CCISD has received.

The staff member has not been on campus since March 13th and is following all CDC guidelines. Although the employee is not a classroom teacher, students, staff and campus visitors may have been in contact with the employee prior to the onset of any symptoms.

Over spring break, JR Elementary was thoroughly cleaned and e-Misted using medical-grade cleaners per the current sanitation plan. In addition to regular cleaning, the eMist procedure was also utilized on March 8th. A video demonstrating the e-Mist method can be viewed at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xBr-aqOj1E.

Due to privacy issues, the name of the staff member cannot be disclosed. However, our local hospital and health department have provided guidance to our employee.

Safety is our top priority. CCISD is committed to sharing information with our community as it becomes available. Guidance regarding Covid-19 can found at the Texas Health and Human Service website located at www.https://hhs.texas.gov/

Our thoughts and prayers are with our entire community. Wishing you God’s blessing as we move forward together.

Sincerely,
Larry W. Nichols, Superintendent of Schools”
