Jaguars split bracket games in Gulf Shores

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars softball team split a pair of games Sunday in bracket play at the Gulf Shores Invitational.

The Jaguars (13-7) opened play with a 3-0 loss to Coastal Georgia and then bounced back to defeat Middle Georgia State 7-1.

The Jaguars were held to just two hits in the opener, singles by Gabby Davila (SO/Houston, TX) and Aubri Hockenbury (SR/Santa Fe, TX).

Coastal Georgia plated solo runs in the first, fourth and sixth and only two of the three runs were earned against UHV pitcher Haley Beam (SR/Pearland, Texas). Beam struck out three and did not issue a walk, while giving up six hits.

The Jaguars struck early against Middle Georgia with a solo run in the first and four in the second.

Beam, who finished with five RBIs, drove in three of the five early runs with a single in the first and a two-run double in the second. Beam, who was 4-for-4, would also drive in solo runs in the fourth and sixth.

Alyssa Dial (SO/Victoria, TX) and Michelle Revels (SO/Corpus Christi, TX) had the other two RBI for the Jaguars.

Revels earned the win in the circle as she worked five scoreless innings allowing two hits and two walks, while striking out three. Kelsey Tidrick (FR/Port Lavaca, TX) pitched the final two innings allowing one run on two hits and a walk, while striking out two.

The Jaguars return home to host Indiana Tech in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, March 11 at the Victoria youth Sports Complex.
