It’s Election Day and the results could affect how the state of Texas is run

This election was important because you were able to vote on the State’s 10 constitutional amendments.

Margetta Hill, the Victoria County Elections Administrator said,” It’s the Constitutional Amendment Election and we have 10 constitution amendments that we will be voting for or against today”.

The 10 Constitution Amendments are big issues, and they will determine how our State will run.

PROPOSITION 6 that was listed on the ballot talks about the increase bonds for Cancer Prevention and Research Institute. This will help fund cancer research. Proposition 4 was prohibiting state income tax on the residences This will make it difficult for a future legislator to make a bill or proposal a personal tax increase in the state. I asked Hill how important is our state taxes.

“That’s very important because paying more taxes a lot of people don’t want to do that. I can’t see really anybody who wants to pay more taxes but it is important like all the rest of them,” said Hill.

In Victoria, several community members were out placing their votes to have a say in the constitutional amendments. This turn out has caused the voting lines to be longer than expected.

“It’s taking a little bit longer than usual this time at the polls, because people are reading the constitutional amendments and trying to understand them. So at the Pattie Dodson Health Center, we have seen at least a 10 to 15-minute wait in line,” said Hill.
