Inmate escapes while being transported to a local hospital
Law enforcement successfully captured the inmate near the hospital grounds
FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas – On Thursday, Nov. 17, at approximately 8:10 p.m., 20-year-old inmate Deshawn Villanueva, of LaGrange, claimed he was sick. The Corrections Officer staff then contacted Fayette County EMS to evaluate him. EMS transported Villanueva, secured with restraints, to St. Mark Emergency Room with a Corrections Officer on board. While at St. Mark’s and still restrained, the inmate ran out of the ER doors.
Twenty-one minutes after the inmate eluded officers, he was taken back into custody near the hospital grounds. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the LaGrange Police Department assisted with this incident.
Villanueva was in custody at the Dan R. Beck Justice Center on a Failure to Appear warrant for a Forgery charge. He was also arrested for charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Resisting Arrest earlier this week by the Fayette County Narcotics Unit.
Villanueva is now facing the charge of Escape while Arrested, a Third Degree Felony.
