Anne-Marie only realised she wanted to be a singer this year.

The ‘Rockabye’ hitmaker admits the last 12 months has been “one of her favourite years for personal growth” but despite a longstanding music career, she only realised in 2020 that this is what she wants to do for the rest of her life.

Speaking about how 2020 affected her, she said: “It sounds so cliche, but it has been one of my favourite years for personal growth. Obviously not for the world in general, it’s been horrific. But at the start of the whole lockdown, it was the worst I’ve ever felt.

“I was low and just in a bad place. Then I started doing my own documentary, so I was filming and working through how I felt. And then I started going to therapy and that’s changed my life. It’s funny because someone asked me a question, ‘When’s the first time you realised you wanted to be a singer?’ And I was like, ‘It’s so strange, but this year.’ It’s weird.”

And the 29-year-old singer admits 2020 has been “reaffirming for her personally”.

She added to the Mail Online: “My whole life, I’ve just gone with the flow, I met a songwriter and then I’ve got in the studio and then I started writing my own songs and then I got in with Rudimental … When I was young, I wanted to be a singer and I was like, ‘Oh, I’d love to be like Christina Aguilera,’ not knowing that it was actually possible to do that in real life. Obviously, I’ve had that imposter syndrome as well, where I’ve been thinking, ‘What the hell is going on?’ But this year is the first time I’ve thought, ‘Yeah, actually I’m fully decided in my brain that this is my life and I’m accepting it.’ And that is one of my favourite things that have come from this year. This year has been pretty crazy, reaffirming for me personally, but crazy.”
