Hygienic items, quarters needed for Blessing Bags being made for the homeless

Drop off donations between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, January 20 at our Saviour's Lutheran Church

VICTORIA, Texas – Blessing Bags and Change has been an MLK Day tradition in Victoria for the last four years.

Organizers will meet at our Saviour’s Lutheran Church Monday morning to collect hygiene items and change, preferably quarters, and putting them into bags for those in need.

Kim Pickens, who does homeless outreach through the Humility Project, says it’s a great way to spend the national holiday with the whole family while also doing something in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“As if it’s not hard enough being homeless, try to actually get laundry pods and quarters to be able to go and wash your clothes,” Pickens said. “That’s what we’re striving for, that the majority of the items we’re hoping will be laundry pods and quarters and we’ll put those in the bags and supplement those hygiene bags but any items that people want to bring that are hygiene-related will be used.”

Be sure to drop off your donation between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, January 20th at our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, located at Crestwood and Ben Jordan. Parking will be available at Entrance E.
