Hurricane Harvey brings torrential rain and flying debris

VICTORIA – Residents in Victoria enjoyed the Eclipse Monday, but by Tuesday they were monitoring what’s now become one of the strongest storms to ever hit the area in nearly 50 years.

More than 500 people are taking shelter at two facilities in Victoria during Hurricane Harvey. St. Joseph High School recorded 340 people and the Bloomington Dome accepted 200 people. Area leaders decided to close shelters at 4 p.m. Friday and warned Victoria did not have equipment to make swift water rescues. Emergency workers warned of big delays anytime winds were 45 mph or higher.

The Emergency Hotline for Victoria residents is 361-580-5796.

Consumers concerned about price gouging can file complaints with the Texas Attorney General’s Office by calling the Consumer Protection line at 1-800-621-0508.
