Houston-Victoria Leads the way in 2022 RRAC softball preseason poll

WACO, Texas — On the heels of its run through the 2021 RRAC softball tournament, Houston-Victoria landed in the top spot of the 2022 RRAC Softball Preseason Poll. The Jaguars picked up eight first-place votes and finished 15 points ahead of the rest of the conference.

Last year, UHV closed out with a flourish. Entering the RRAC tournament as the fifth seed, the Jaguars played their way through the losers bracket and took a pair of championship games from Texas A&M-Texarkana by 6-1 and 4-2 scores. UHV continued by sweeping three games in the NAIA Softball Championship Opening Round and knocking out 12th-ranked Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in the NAIA Softball World Series. The Jaguars were eliminated in the next round, but they finished the season by winning 13 of their last 16 games and earning the No. 19 ranking in the final NAIA poll.

After capturing its first RRAC regular season title a year ago, TAMUT will be back in the hunt while returning RRAC Pitcher of the Year Dorrie Cormier and RRAC Newcomer of the Year Anna Westberry. The Eagles placed second in the poll and collected two first-place votes.

LSU Alexandria was picked third followed by Our Lady of the Lake and Jarvis Christian, which received the final first-place vote.

RRAC standings will look very different in 2022. Two schools that opted out last year, Huston-Tillotson and Texas College, return to action, and new RRAC members Louisiana Christian and Xavier will enter the fray.

With the expanded conference, the RRAC will be split into East and West divisions. JCC, LCU, LSUA, TAMUT, TXC and Xavier will play in the East. UHV, HT, OLLU, USW and Texas A&M-San Antonio will compete in the West.

Preseason poll voting was submitted by each of the head coaches. Results of the poll are shown below with points calculated through a 11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 format. First place votes are shown in parentheses.
