Home Instead Senior Care helping seniors re-enter the workforce

Home Instead Senior Care has several online resources like quizzes and slideshows to guide seniors into re-entering the workforce.

The quiz asks about participants work history and interests to match with possible career options. The online resources also includes a list of the top ten jobs for retirees.

More than half of retirees would return to work under the right conditions according to a survey by the RAND Corporation, but they don’t know where to start looking.

“Once they go into that retirement mode then it’s kind of hard sometimes to decide ‘what can I do’ or ‘what can I do to give back.’ It’s a good resource tool to figure that out,” says Jennifer Salinas, Home Instead Community Sales Representative.

The most common reasons for retirees returning to work include wanting to spend time doing fulfilling work, as well as fighting boredom. It’s also beneficial to their health.

“It keeps their mind going. It keeps the seniors able to still do something, interact with people, interact with the community,” explains Salinas.

Elizabeth Hernandez works as a Client Care Coordinator at Home Instead as part of the UnRetire Yourself program. As a client care coordinator she visits clients in their home to check on their needs.

“I love it, I’ve been a nurse all my life and I still got a little bit of nursing left to do,” says Hernandez.

Members of the community can benefit a lot from working with their elders according to Salinas.

“Because they have a lot to share with the community. They’ve lived their life, they have all this knowledge that they can help us with. They have been through a lot more than what we have, we can learn from them basically.”

Salinas hopes to continue raising awareness about the UnRetire Yourself program because she believes both the young and the old can benefit.
