Hispanic Heritage Festival at Texas State Aquarium to celebrate south Texas culture

On Saturday, September 28, the Hispanic Heritage Festival at the Texas State Aquarium will focus on the vibrant culture of South Texas with music, crafts, dances, cultural displays, food, highlighting the people of Latin America and their historical connection to the ocean.

From 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., a variety of activities and opportunities, all included with guest admission or membership, will immerse attendees in the world of Hispanic culture.

The Texas A&M Corpus Christi Culture Alliance will provide decorations in the Aquarium lobby along with an educational booth on Latin American countries, traditional arts and crafts and a demonstration on corn grinding and weaving. A children’s craft area will also be offered in the CITGO Skyline Venue by KSpace Contemporary.

Interactive educational activities including a scavenger hunt with facts about creatures native to Latin America, face painting and a craft-making area will also allow guests of all ages to explore Hispanic history and culture.

The Hispanic traditions of music and dance will also be celebrated with folklorica performances by Ballet Folklorica Viva Mexico. In addition, Hispanic cultural features will be intermixed into the Aquarium’s daily animal exhibits, presentations, and restaurant menu.

Guests will be able to see themed animal enrichment throughout the Aquarium and can enjoy special music during the DOLPHINS! presentation and Wild Flight Show. The Pepsi Shoreline Grill will also serve up a 3400-year old pre-Columbian fish taco recipe, adapted from a recipe provided by TAMUCC.

This meal will be carry an additional cost and is not included with admission or membership.

The Aquarium will be open on Saturday, September 28 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. with all Hispanic Heritage Festival activities available from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. These activities, along with access to exhibits and wildlife presentations, 4D shows, and parking, are included with guest admission or membership.
