Herman raves about Whittington on Media Day

Former Cuero standout Jordan Whittington hasn’t wasted much time making a positive impression with his new team.

Speaking at Big 12 Media Day on Tuesday, Texas head football coach Tom Herman raved about the rising freshman’s work ethic, lauding the former Gobbler’s commitment to playing a position he’s never been asked to play before.

“I’ve never seen (it) in my 22 years coaching,” said Herman of Whittington’s willingness to switch positions to fill the team’s needs.

A four-star recruit at wide receiver, Whittington has lined up at tailback for much of spring practice and in the team’s spring game in April. The switch comes as a result of an already saturated wide receiver core in Austin.

That team-first mentality hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Longhorns’ coaching staff.

“We’re really excited about him,” added Herman.
