Harvey threatens Texas with strong winds and storm surge Friday

The Victoria Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is carefully watching the remnants of Harvey as it moves over the Yucatan Peninsula and into Campeche Bay this evening. The National Weather expects development into a tropical depression as Harvey enters the southwestern Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday. The storm will move in the general direction of the Texas Coast on Friday and could produce tropical storm winds or hurricane force winds along portions of the Texas Coast.

Residents along the Texas Coast should monitor the progression of this system and residents of the Victoria area should create an emergency plan if the storm intensifies. Heavy rains are forecast and possible electrical outages could occur.
