Hallettsville Football Heads To Regionals
Brahmas To Face Unbeaten George West
Hallettsville, Texas —
Last year, Hallettsville football finished 1-5 in district, and was picked to finish fifth in 14-3A Division I this year.
That was then. Now, the Brahmas are in the third round of the playoffs after going 4-1 and taking second place in district. Led by junior running back Jonathon Brooks, our Athlete Of The Week this week, after losing to second ranked Shiner in August, Hallettsville did not lose again until November, when the Brahmas lost a squeaker on the road to Industrial. Riding a three-game win streak, Hallettsville football is in round three of the playoffs for the first time in three years. Head coach Tommy Psencik told our Sean Coffey how special this playoff run is.
“The kids themselves are gelling very well. And again, a lot of that even comes from the home life. The parents are excited, the community’s excited. We’re trying to stay humble and hungry at the same time. And giving credit where credit’s due. So that’s where we’re at. “
Coach Psencik now gets to coach against an old Texas Lutheran football teammate.
Brent Kornegay takes his undefeated George West Longhorns in to face Hallettsville. This 3A Division I regional playoff comes Friday night at 7:30 at Dub Farris Stadium in San Antonio.
