Warrior Girls Get Big Hoops Win

Here are Friday night’s area high school basketball and soccer scores. West girls improve to 11-2 in district, staying just a game out of first, after winning big in Corpus at Miller, 78-25. Carrie Barrera-Lacy led West with 21 points, Jozelyn Washington scored 16, 11 for Kennedy Youngblood.

East girls soccer beat CC Miller 5-0 tonight at Buc Stadium. They are now 2-0-1 in district play with an overall record of 5-4-2. Kyleigh Spree-Kolos put in the 1st goal off an assist by Chloe Spencer. That was 2 minutes after kick-off. Jonbenet Limon scored 4 minutes later. The score was 2-0 at the half. The Titans were able to execute on 2 penalty kicks awarded in the 2nd half. Kaylee Brewer and Kamryn Barnett both put points on the board with those successful penalty kicks. Lauren Vahalik scored her 1st goal of the season from the top of the 18. Kyleigh Spree-Kolos assisted. Midfielders Jonbenet Limon and Lauren Urban claimed the most steals tonight with 9 and 6 respectively. Alyssa Garcia procured the shutout tonight. Titans will face a tough Veterans Memorial Tuesday night at 6PM in Victoria.

East boys soccer, now 2-0-1 in district after beating Miller, 2-0, at Buc Stadium. Scoring for the Titans were Khaleb Pinon and Carl Valdez. Assisting on the goals were Pinon and Julio Aguirre. Getting the shut out was Lucas Chavez as the keeper.
