H.S. Basketball Finals

Here are Friday night’s area high school basketball finals. West girls win Friday at the Laredo United Classic, 54-25 over Edcouch-Elsa. Kennedy Youngblood leads the Warriors with 12 points, nine for Chelsea Lacy. They’ll next play at that tourney Saturday at 8:00 a.m. East girls split a pair at the Buda Hays tournament. After losing to Bastrop, 55-45, with Leilani Wimbish-Gay scoring 15 points, the Titan girls won over Ray, 57-49. Deja Barefield led east with 15 points, 12 apiece for Susie Hernandez and Leilani Wimbish-Gay,and they next play in the tourney Saturday at 1:00 p.m. St. Joe boys win twice more at the Bloomington tournament to improve to 8-0 on the season. After beating Edna, 73-71, with Fred Proctor scoring 21 points, 19 apiece for William Proctor and Gary Villareal, the Flyers beat the host team, 69-64. Villareal led St. Joe with 19 points, 16 for William Proctor. The Flyers play in the championship round there Saturday at 12:30 p.m. St. Joe girls win twice at the Industrial tournament. After the Lady Flyers beat Hallettsville, 47-40, with Alisa Novosad scoring 25 points and Allyson Rodriguez 19, St. Joe beat Needville, 44-34. Novosad put in 34 points, Rodriguez with 10. The Lady Flyers next play at the tourney against Sweeny Saturday at noon. At the Rockport tourney, Goliad girls won over Wimberley, 48-41. Roxanne Morris led the Tigerettes with 15 points, 14 for Kassidy Nicholson. Goliad then lost to West Oso, 54-42. 22 points for Morris.
