West Softball Clinches Playoff Spot

Here are Thursday night’s area high school baseball and softball scores.

West beats East in softball, 10-3, and clinches its first softball playoff spot in seven years. Both teams finish 9-7 in district, but the Warriors have the tie-breaker by sweeping the Titans. Clara Zappe was the winning pitcher. West softball faces Flour Bluff in Bi-District.

West baseball loses to third ranked Veterans Memorial, 2-1, in eight innings in district action, as the Eagles clinch the district title. West now 5-9 in district. Clayton Wenske, EJ Rodriguez, and Colten Matus were each 1 for 3. Clayton Wenske with the loss on the mound. He pitched 7 1/3 innings. Finished with five strikeouts and gave up two unearned runs on five base hits. Next Monday night, West baseball takes on Moody in Corpus Christi.

East baseball loses in Corpus to Carroll, 5-3. The Titans are 7-7 in district. Jacob Martinez was the losing pitcher. Two hits and two RBI’s for Zach Shannon.
