H-E-B celebrates Independence Day by honoring our nation’s military heroes

The first 500 active duty service members nominated will receive a Lone Star inspired care package

AUSTIN, TEXAS – In honor of America’s Independence Day, H-E-B shares it’s gratitude for the sacrifices of our nation’s military heroes by sending over 500 Operation Appreciation backpack care packages to Texans serving our country away from home.

The H-E-B Facebook page helps celebrate freedom and those who protext it by featuring a short video in honor of America’s Independence Day, inviting customers to nominate an active-duty service member for an extra special H-E-B care package. Nominations are currently open and will be accepted until 500 are received. The backpack care package is filled with H-E-B favorites that offer a taste of home and will be sent anywhere across the world. Customers will also have the opportunity to fill the care package with love by writing inspirational words in the comments section. This will be included on a notecard in the package.

“We are thankful for the commitment of the brave men and women who defend our nation’s freedom and are honored to share a bit of home with our service members,” said Johnny Mojica, H-E-B Public Affairs. This effort is one of more than 200 Independence Day celebrations H-E-B supports each year across Texas.

The company launched H-E-B Operation Appreciation back in 2013 as a year-round initiative to support, honor and provide opportunities to military service members and their families. Through the initiative, H-E-B has hired thousands of veterans and active-duty service members, including their family members. Each year, H-E-B’s statewide donation campaign raises funds for the Gary Sinise Foundation, Homes for Our Troops and Operation Finally Home and other military-serving non-profits, including the Military Child Education Coalition, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors and the United Service Organizations. Additionally, as part of the initiative, H-E-B Homes Built for Heroes program offers fully furnished, mortgage-free custom homes to severely injured military veterans. H-E-B and the H-E-B Tournament of Champions have gifted 34 homes since 2013, as part of the program.
