Guns now allowed on community college campuses

Starting today, community colleges in Texas will have to allow students with a concealed handgun license to carry. Victoria college police chief Felix Appelt tells me there has been no incidents at the campus in the last year when the law was first passed.

Right after the law passed at universities, the college prepared by investing money into enhancing the buildings with more security systems.

The college has drills every couple of months to prepare the students for any kind of emergency. Appelt says he doesn’t expect anything to change, and they’re prepared to keep the campus safe. Appelt encourages CHL holders to research the law before carrying on campus.

You can find the Victoria college policies on their website. Appelt says the police will hold a discussion for anyone to voice any concerns or ask questions. These will take place this upcoming fall semester.
