Gov. Abbott issues disaster declaration for the city of Uvalde

Gov. Greg Abbott declares state of disaster in Uvalde, to accelerate state and local resources to assist community.

AUSTIN, Texas – Governor Greg Abbott announces a state of a disaster on May 31, 2022, for the city of Uvalde following the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School that left 19 students and two teachers dead.

“The community of Uvalde has been left devastated by last week’s senseless act of violence at Robb Elementary School and should not have to encounter any difficulty in receiving the support needed to heal,” said Gov. Abbott in the press release.

The disaster declaration will accelerate state and local resources to assist the Uvalde community. It also suspends regulations that would delay or prevent any necessary actions in dealing with the tragedy.

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is working with the local mental health authority and the numerous entities offering support to the Uvalde community to provide a single access point for mental health services.
