Goliad County Sheriff’s Office arrests four others in connection to a fatal shooting in June
More arrests in fatal shooting
GOLIAD, Texas — On June 13 th a teen was shot and killed in Goliad, another person was hurt.
Now the Goliad County Sheriff’s office has arrested several other people in the double shooting.
On June 13th, 18 year old Daniel Mendoza shot and killed 20 year old Nathan Cortinas. Early the next morning Mendoza was arrested and charged with capital murder.
Now Mendoza has received additional charges.
“The additional counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon $50,0000 bond, theft of a firearm $10,000 dollar bond, two counts of endangering a child $20,000 total and engaging in organized criminal activity $100,000 bond,” adds Capt. John Pape, Goliad Sheriff’s Office.
As the investigation continued the sheriff’s office identified Mendoza as the shooter and now have arrested 4 others in connection to the shooting.
“April Ara Beveridge, she is being charged with capital murder, engaging in organized criminal activity, and endangering a child, said Capt. John Pape, Goliad Sheriff’s Office.
“We have also arrested Jade Ayana Culpepper, and she is charged with capital murder, endangering a child, and engaging in organized criminal activity.”
“We’ve arrested a Jose Ignacio Hernandez, who is charged with capital murder, endangering a child, assault, burglary of a habitation, theft of a firearm, and engaging in organized criminal activity.
“We have also arrested a Joseph Brian Segura, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, deadly conduct, engaging in organized criminal activity, and endangering a child,” explains Pape.
Captain Pape says there had been bad blood between the parties.
“Yes there was a dispute over allegations that money was owed by one party to the other, in the amount of $60 dollars. It just spiraled from there and there is a lot of elements to this but it began over a dispute,” tells Pape
Pape adds they believe the suspects planned this attack and Cortinas was baited over to the location before the shooting.
Brianna Bexley who was shot one time and injured says in a statement “that her recovery is going well and the others being arrested made her feel safer knowing they are behind bars and can’t hurt anyone else”
Captain Pape says the investigation is ongoing and there will be additional arrested made in the future but there is no timetable as to when.
