Go Red for Women Expo Raises Awareness about Heart Disease

February is heart month and today Victoria’s American Heart Association Go Red Organization put on the first Go Red for Women Expo.

The event included a health fair expo and raffle. Guest speakers Melissa Rivera and Scott and Sarah Wideman spoke about surviving their heart condition. The Go Red for Women Fashion show was the finale of the night. Every man and woman in the fashion show has had a personal experience with heart conditions. Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. and the symptoms are different for men and women.

“I’m just hoping someone takes away a little piece of maybe I need to see a doctor, maybe that flutter in my heart is not normal, maybe I ought to have that checked out.’ So I’m hoping it brings awareness and education,” Director of Strategic Initiatives with Post Acute Medical Hospitals of Victoria, Rhonda Reader said.

The event was meant to raise awareness and educate people about heart disease. All proceeds from tonight’s event will go to the American Heart Association.
