Generals Wrap Up Series Against Marshals

The Generals wrapped up their four-game set against the Texas Marshals on Friday, losing a hard fought contest 6-5 at Riverside Stadium. After winning the first two games of the series by forfeit due to field issues in East Dallas, the two teams made the trek back to Victoria to resume play as a home series for the Generals. The Generals dropped Thursday’s game, 4-3, following a ninth inning rally by the Marshals.

UHV’s Jonathan Jimenez got the start for the Generals on Friday, throwing 5 1/3 innings of three-run ball before recently acquired Jake Woodland came on in relief. Jimenez was staked a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch from Marshal’s starter Will Gilbert that allowed Giancarlo Servin to score, but gave it up in the top of the 6th on a 2-RBI single by Jay French. The Marshals would add one more off of Woodland with an RBI single.

The Generals struck back in the bottom half of the frame, however, with a two-run double off the bat of Servin. The Marshals would then take the lead for good, allowing another run in the bottom of the 8th to cut the score to 6-5. Servin finished 1-2 with a pair of RBI while Luis Vargas went 1-3 with an RBI of his own.

The Generals will look to bounce back tomorrow as they open up a two-game home set against the first place Brazos Valley Bombers from Riverside. Saturday is the team’s annual “Bark at the Park” night, where all fans are invited to bring their four legged friends to the game.
