Generals present team awards before season finale

Just before taking the field for their final regular season game of 2019, the Generals recognized a few key figures.

The Generals presented their annual team awards in a pregame ceremony on the field Friday night, recognizing Matthew Swick, Coby Potvin, and Deryk Serbantez for their contributions to the team in 2019.

A two-year General, Swick was named Pitcher of the Year, going 2-1 with a team-leading 3.14 ERA over 10 starts. The Blinn College product, who will start the Generals’ postseason opener on Saturday, struck out 56 batters in a team-high 54 1/3 innings pitched in 2019.

Potvin was named Player of the Year, as he led the Generals in a number of offensive categories, including posting an eye-popping .446 OBP in 2019. In total, Potvin has seven doubles, three triples, and 24 RBI to go along with a .352 batting average this season.

Serbantez, meanwhile, was presented with General of the Year, a character award which recognizes a player’s contributions both on and off the field. Serbantez has both pitched and played infield for the Generals this season, notching a .325 batting average in 40 at-bats, while compiling a 3-0 record on the mound.
