Generals Edge the Twins, 6-4

The Generals opened up a two game series against the Texarkana Twins from Riverside Stadium on Monday night. After stumbling out of the gate following the All-Star Break, the Generals recovered to sweep the Bombers over the weekend to vault themselves back into first place. The win on Monday was their third straight, as they bested the Twins 6-4 behind a strong pitching performance from Alex Canul.

“Not only are they a good team but we need to get on the right page with our new guys,” head coach Michael Oros said before the game. “I think we did that the last two nights against the Bombers and hopefully we can keep it rolling against the Twins.”

Oros noted the importance of timely hitting with his team, which has had no issue putting runners on base of late but has seemed to struggle with runners in scoring position. The Generals bucked that trend on Monday night with two-out rallies in both the 5th and 6th innings which resulted in five runs.

Alex Canul threw six innings of shutout ball in the contest before running into trouble in the 7th. After allowing singles to the first two batters, Canul managed to get a strikeout before getting pulled from the contests. Two runs that scored later that inning were charged to Canul.

He struck out 8 over 6 1/3, giving up 6 hits and 2 earned. The Generals will wrap up the two game set against the Twins on Tuesday before preparing to travel to Louisiana to face the Cane Cutters this weekend.
