Geanie Morrison defeats first opponent to face her in a primary election

VICTORIA, Texas – Although, the final numbers have yet to be reported – preliminary numbers show that State House Representative, District-30, Geanie Morrison defeated her first opponent to face her in a primary election. Morrison came ahead of Vanessa Hicks-Callaway early in the evening with thousands of votes ahead. 

Morrison has been in her seat since 1999.

“I am very humbled by the people that elected me to come back and elected me to stay in office,” Morrison said. “And there’s still so much to do with Hurricane Harvey recovery and working on that and then with redistricting coming up, so I look forward to helping District 30, my six counties and all my constituents.”

As of midnight, Hicks-Callaway was unavailable for comment.

According to numbers from the Secretary of State’s website, Morrison won 81.3 percent of the vote, Callaway-Hicks received 18.7 percent of votes out of a total of 10,106 ballots.
