Ganado wants to keep winning streak alive against Shiner

GANADO, Texas — The Ganado Indians come into this year with winning on its mind.

Ganado is hosting Shiner this year. The last time the Indians hosted the Comanches won 49-7. Ganado and Three Rivers are the only two teams in the district with Shiner and Refugio that are undefeated. Ganado quarterback Kyle Bures-Guerrero has started for the Indians for four years and said there is no advantage being of being undefeated, but knows this is a big game and is excited for the atmosphere.

There’s not any advantage, our district we are in is tough so we are going to have to go in and compete no matter what team it is, said Bures-Guerrero. I want to win, I want to beat them. They beat us twice in a row and I want to get back at them.

Bures-Guerrero went on to say they need to get better at tackling and he needs to be more consistent when throwing the ball. Ganado head coach Josh Ervin said anytime you can start the season 4-0, it’s a good thing and they will have to “do what they do and play football all four quarters.”

All we are focused on is doing our job. They have some good playmakers there and are a good team, but we feel like if we do our job then we can play with anyone, said Ervin. We are going to have to bring the same physicality that Shiner usually brings and if we can match the physicality, then we feel good.

The Indians and Comanches will battle Friday night at 7:30 in Indian stadium.
