Gale Warning, Wind Advisory, and Freeze Warning in effect for portions of South Texas

Strong winds behind a cold front that moved through South Texas on Monday afternoon will gradually weaken through Wednesday. This will set the stage for a very cold night tonight as skies clear. Widespread freezing conditions are expected for most inland areas of South Texas on Wednesday morning. A wind chill advisory may also be necessary for the coastal counties on Wednesday morning.

Forecast:

Wind: North winds 25 to 35 mph this morning will diminish to 15 to 25 mph by the afternoon across the coastal counties. Over the waters, north winds 25 to 35 knots will gradually diminish to 20 to 30 knots by the afternoon. Brief gusts to 40-45 knots will be possible mainly over the offshore water this morning.

Seas/Bays: Seas as high as 11 to 13 feet will occur this morning over the offshore waters. Bays will be very rough at times this morning. Seas will slowly subside by this afternoon as well as slowly improving bay conditions.

Wind Impacts : Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

Temperatures: Temperatures will fall to 26 to 30 degrees across the Brush Country and Victoria area. It will remain below freezing for generally between 6 and 9 hours across the Brush Country and Victoria area. Temperatures will fall to 29 to 32 degrees across the inland portions of the Coastal Bend. It will generally below freezing for 3 to 6 hours across the inland portions of the Coastal Bend.

Temperature Impacts: Necessary precautions should be made to protect sensitive vegetation and exposed pipes for the widespread freeze expected Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Adequate measures should be taken to ensure the safety of the elderly and pets. When going outside, dress warmly. Make sure school children are dressed warmly, including covering exposed skin.
