VICTORIA, Texas — The level seven Regional Competition took place in Aurora, Colorado and is the biggest meet that gymnast Madelyn Rung and Olivia Parma are able to compete in and this was the first year they were able to compete at level seven.
The girls were able to create their own routine called an optional routine. Girls from seven states were there and participated included Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Arkansas. Nine-year-old Rung finished 3rd all around, 2nd in bars and 4th on beam in Junior A Division. Rung says although she did not do her best she is still happy with her finish.
“This year I want to compete at my very best” says Rung. “I want to qualify for state as well as Regionals again.”
Gym teammate Parma who is 11-years-old also competed in the same meet, but at the Junior D Division. Parma is coming off a broken foot which she suffered in practice. The broken foot caused her to miss two competitions. Parma finished 2nd in vault, 1st in bars and 2nd all around. Both girls are now preparing for level eight competition which starts in December. Full Force coach Beth Perez says she was impressed with how well the girls did at the competition.
“When we train, we always like to be two levels ahead of what we actually compete ” says Perez. “Rung and Parma are going to be competing at level eight next year, so we will be working on level nine and 10 to get to the higher skill levels more safely”
Beth Perez has been coaching the girls for five years and is excited to see what the future holds for them.
