Friday H.S. baseball and softball roundup

Here are Friday’s high school baseball and softball results from around the Crossroads:

East and West baseball hosted a district doubleheader at Riverside, with East taking the field first against Moody. The Titans had their share of troubles against the Trojans, as Moody starter Josh Salinas went the distance in an 8-1 road win, recording six strikeouts while yielding just four hits.

With the loss, East falls to fifth place in the district standings — just out of the playoff picture — while Moody leapfrogs the Titans into fourth.

In the second game, West earned a hard-fought, 3-1 win over Ray behind a brilliant pitching performance from Clayton Wenske. Wenske threw a complete game for the victory, allowing an early run before shutting the door as the Warriors improved to 4-7 in district. Jose Aguilar drove in two for West, while Jordan Fillmore added the other run with a solo home run.

On the road in Corpus, West softball got a big win as they blew out Miller 16-1. Katarina Zarate hit two home runs for the Warriors, while Jaelah Johnson added a homer of her own. Sydney Harvey hit an inside-the-park home run and Clara Zappe got the win, in a run-rule shortened game.
