Four arrested during the New Year’s holiday season

Here are the details on each arrest

FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas – On Jan. 4, Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that on Dec. 28, 2021 morning, Sergeant Ryan Meagher responded to a suspicious person walking along IH 10 near milepost 670. Officials located the male, who stated his vehicle ran out of gas. After further investigation, Meagher learned the vehicle was reported stolen out of Houston. Edward Powell, 46 of Richmond, was arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

On Dec. 31, 2021, Deputy Austin Moore stopped the driver of a vehicle on FM 609 near Interstate 10 for speeding. Deputy Moore identified the driver was in possession of marijuana and a controlled substance of Buprenorphine medication. Stephen Kahlig, 37 of San Antonio, was charged with possession of marijuana and a controlled substance.

On Jan. 1, 2022, Deputy Austin Moore located a suspicious vehicle parked near the Bar G gas station in the early morning hours. He located an occupant in the vehicle. The occupant possessed numerous out-of-state warrants for theft and grand theft. Deputy Moore also located marijuana in the vehicle. Marqavontae Hemphill, 18 of Flint, Michigan, was arrested.

On Jan. 1, 2022, Deputy Orlando Buitron stopped the driver of a vehicle traveling on State Highway 159 in the evening hours. Deputy Buitron stopped the vehicle for a defective license plate light. During the traffic stop investigation, Deputy Buitron located Ecstasy and marijuana in the vehicle. Angelica Gutierrez, 20 of La Grange, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
