Four Area H.S. Football Teams Make State Top Tens 9-9
Calhoun Makes First Poll Appearance
Victoria, Texas —
Four area high school football teams make the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Sagazine state top tens this week.
One of those teams makes its season debut in the poll. After two impressive wins to start the season, Calhoun is ranked eighth in 5A Division II. The Sandcrabs have scored a total of 126 points in their two wins. Running back Steve Johnson is in the top 30 in the state in rushing, and quarterback Conner Kestler is in the top ten in the state in scoring with seven touchdowns.
The result of one game last Friday changes the state rankings for two area teams. As a result of Yoakum’s 40-21 win at Cuero, the Gobblers drop out of the state 4A Division II top ten. The Mean Green had been ranked fourth. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, move up in the state 3A Division I poll to number six. Yoakum is the only area team in the 3A polls.
Two area teams are at the top of the 2A Division I state ratings. Refugio stays at number one, Shiner moves up to number two. Both teams are now 2-0 on the season. The Bobcats won big at Goliad last friday night, while the Comanches won at home over the team St. Joe will host this Friday night, the Industrial Cobras.
