Formosa Plastics contract employees test positive for COVID-19

VICTORIA, Texas- We’ve received several calls into the newsroom about Formosa Plastics and how they’re responding to the coronavirus pandemic. The $5 billion company employing nearly 3,000 people in our area has now confirmed two contract employees tested positive for COVID-19. Formosa Plastics hires contract companies that fill in temporary positions.

Steve Marwitz, a company spokesperson says, details on the timeline, or age and gender of the patients are not being released.

After several attempts to confirm how employees are being protected at their facility in Point Comfort, Formosa Plastics responded in a press release, “we have implemented comprehensive procedures to reduce the spread of the illness…. enhanced guidelines for hygiene, social distancing, work scheduling, and travel restrictions.”

Formosa Plastics is considered a critical infrastructure. Products of theirs are used for different medical and personal protective equipment like gloves, goggles, aprons and respirators.
