Formosa Plant “boom” Explained

Over the weekend, there were many reports of an explosion at the Formosa plant in Point Comfort.

Today, the company released a statement regarding the incident.

Around 5:00 Saturday morning, a heat exchanger in steam service failed due to overheating.

The associated pressure release resulted in a loud “boom” that was audible over a substantial distance.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
