Former Yoakum Football Standout Prepares for NFL Training Camp

A former Yoakum and Texas A&M football standout continues working in anticipation of his first NFL training camp. Wide receiver Damion Ratley, selected in the 6th round of this year’s NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns, was at Elite Fitness on Monday morning to train with former Cuero High School football standout Quincey Whittington. Ratley, who started for the Aggies from 2015-17, recently completed the Browns’ OTA’s and rookie minicamp and will report to the team’s training camp on July 24th. He told Don Brubaker that his fitness regimen with Whittington is about sticking to the basics and building himself up for long-term success at the next level.

“The one thing you can do is run forever, and if you can run forever you can play anywhere, everywhere,” Ratley said. “When other guys get tired, and you’re still going that’s the biggest thing, it’s just being up when somebody else is down.”

Ratley is known for his speed and ability to stretch the field, with many NFL scouts noting his plus combination of size, speed and athleticism. The wideout had 694 yards and 6 touchdowns in his last season for Texas A&M.
