SEATTLE, Washington — A former Victoria West graduate is brining home a gold medal after he competed in the track  2022 Western Athletic Conference Championships over the weekend.

Eric Callaway attends Sam Houston State University and won three medals in the 2022 WAC track outdoor championships. He won a gold medal in the 100 meter dash after running a time of 10.36 seconds. Callaway has a goal to make it to the NCAA finals held in Oregon where he would be one of the top eight fastest runners in the country. Before that, he has to compete in Arkansas Wednesday May 25 for the west region prelim meet. In order to complete his goal, he has to be one of the top 12 finishers at the meet, then go through multiple heats and make the top eight out of 48 in Oregon. Callaway did the best he has ever done in the outdoor championships. Callaway said he likes track the most of all the sports he competed in because it is an individual sport, if you win or lose it is on you. Callaway will have one more year of eligibility after this track season.
