Former Victoria Mayor John Blackaller passes away

Blackaller was first elected to City Council in 1981

VICTORIA, Texas – The City of Victoria announced the recent passing of John Blackaller, a former mayor and councilmember of the City of Victoria. Blackaller was first elected to the City Council in 1981. He then successfully ran for re-election in 1982 after the council increased from five to seven seats.

Blackaller was re-elected to council in 1985 and then elected as mayor in 1987. He continued to serve as mayor until 1990.

During his term as mayor, Blackaller served for two terms on the Appraisal District Board. This board hires the chief appraiser and set the budget for the appraisal district.

Blackaller also served on the charter review commission for the 1991 revision of the City charter. During the Nov. 15 City Council meeting, Mayor Jeff Bauknight asked those in attendance to keep Blackaller’s family in their thoughts during this time.
