Former Generals pitcher Pedro Garcia signing with Reds

On Saturday night, former Generals pitcher Pedro Garcia got some of the best news of his life.

Garcia, who pitched for the Generals in 2017 and 2018 and is playing this summer in Minnesota’s Northwoods League, was offered a contract with the Cincinnati Reds organization late Saturday. The right hander said he was surprised and excited by the news he would get to prove himself at the next level.

“That’s the dream I’ve been dreaming for at least nine years,” Garcia said over the phone on Sunday. “I’ve been working so hard, working every single day, taking’s exciting.”

Garcia also had some heartfelt words for his mother, who still resides in his native Venezuela, upon receiving the contract.

“When I told her, she was excited, started crying,” Garcia added. “I told her, ‘remember what I told you two years ago. I’m gonna make this dream come true, I promise you. I’m gonna play in the bigs. So this first step is especially for my mom, she’s one of the best people in life.”

Garcia was a key player on the Generals’ 2018 TCL Championship winning team, going 4-1 with a 3.85 ERA in nine starts, while striking out 64 over 51 1/3 innings.
