Former Generals pitcher Blake Payne passes away at 29
VICTORIA, Texas — Baseball fans in Victoria received some tragic news this week.
Former Memorial High baseball standout Blake Allen Payne, who also spent two summers with the Victoria Generals, passed away this week in an automobile accident. The 29-year old Payne was killed alongside his fiancee when his vehicle crashed into boulders in the middle of a traffic roundabout in Little Rock, Arkansas, according to a state police report.
The Victoria product graduated from Memorial High in 2008, receiving a scholarship to play ball at Seminole State College before transferring to the University of Central Arkansas on another scholarship. He was a member of the Generals’ inaugural team in 2009, and their TCL Championship winning team in 2010 alongside now-head coach Michael Oros.
According to Dignity Memorial, a visitation will be held for Payne on Monday, July 29th from 5:30 to 7 pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapels in Victoria.
