Former Edna standout Yaws transferring to UHV
VICTORIA, Texas — University of Houston-Victoria head baseball coach Terry Puhl today announced the signing of McMurry University transfer Dylan Yaws of Edna for the 2020 season.
Yaws, a 2018 graduate of Edna High School, joins UHV after one season at McMurry where he was a relief pitcher. He made 11 appearances for the War Hawks tossing 11 innings and striking out eight while compiling a 1-2 record.
The left-handed pitcher earned all-district first team honors his senior season at Edna and was named the baseball MVP for the Cowboys, while finishing the season 19th in the state for strikeouts.
As a junior, he tossed a no-hitter in a playoff win over Schulenburg. He received all-district recognition as a junior and sophomore and was Pitcher of the Year and Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore.
He excelled in the classroom, as well as on the field, earning recognition on the A/B honor roll through his high school career.
“I will get to go to school and play baseball closer to my hometown of Edna,” said Yaws in making his commitment. “And, I’ve wanted to play for Coach Puhl since he spoke to me before a high school game my junior year in high school.”
Yaws plans to study Business while attending UHV.
