Zappe Contends For Walter Payton Award

Huge news for a former East quarterback.
Houston Baptist junior quarterback Bailey Zappe, selected Monday as a finalist for the Walter Payton Award. That award is presented to the most outstanding offensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Zappe has thrown for just over 3800 yards and 35 touchdowns, leading the nation in touchdowns, completions and attempts and ranking second in yards. Zappe ranks seventh in touchdowns and ninth in yards in Southland Conference single-season history. He was named the national offensive player of the week for throwing for close to 500 yards and seven touchdowns against Texas Southern. Zappe has been named the Southland Conference Player Of The Week twice this season.
