Former East Football Star Talks About National Honor
Zappe Named Pre-Season All-America
A former East football star, getting major recognition before his senior season of college football.
Houston Baptist senior quarterback Bailey Zappe, selected to the Hero Sports preseason All-America second team.
As a junior, Zappe threw for just over 3,800 yards and 35 touchdowns, leading the football championship subdivision in touchdowns, completions, attempts and ranking second in yards. Last season, Zappe earned National Offensive Player Of The Week honors twice. Zappe, a finalist for the Walter Payton award, holds almost every HBU career, single-season and single-game passing record. Zappe told us how big this honor is for him.
“It was an amazing feeling. I’m very blessed and grateful to be named one of the best among all the guys in FCS. It’s a great feeling. It shows that all the hard work has been accomplished. But a job still has to be done. This year we’re looking to be Southland Conference champions and I can’t wait to get with my guys and get ready for this year. ”
Zappe told us voluntary workouts for Houston Baptist football begin June 10. On July 5, HBU students move back into their dorms, with team workouts starting the next day.
